It’s like a little home spa day. Super easy to whip together. And give you a lovely chance to spend a little time appreciating your skin while you spread the mask onto your face.
Plus you get to put your feet up while it works it’s magic. And don’t we all deserve to have those little moments where we spoil ourselves and feel like a queen? I think so!
And, I swear, it’s worthwhile to put chocolate and coffee on your face! I’m about to blow your mind with all the goodness they have to offer your skin (I was shocked!)
So put on your coziest PJ pants, get a good book ready and prepare to chill! Let’s make ourselves some chocolate coffee DIY face masks and relax!
Why We’re Putting Coffee on Our Face
This is the, what, millionth time I’ve told you to put coffee on your skin? Am I starting to sound like some sort of weird parrot in a coffee commercial? I swear to goodness it’s for an awesome reason! Coffee just rocks it in the skin department.
We’ve talked about it in super detail already when we made this DIY Coffee Face Scrub, but in case you need a little refresher here are the highlights of coffees awesome skincare powers:
-
- Increases circulation, giving you smooth, glowing skin
- Slightly diminishes sun damage and reduces the amount of cancer cells created by too much time in the sun
- Reduces fluid build up and decreases puffiness (awesome for puffy morning eyes!)
Coffee’s skin care superpowers are pretty flipping amazing! I never drink coffee (because it tastes like sadness… I’m sorry, I can’t be converted) but I always keep it on hand for a little skin care magic.

Cacao Is Excited to Love Your Skin Too
Much like our new best skincare friend coffee, cacao waltzes in to this DIY face mask recipe with some pretty cool abilities. In case you’re unfamiliar with cacao powder, this is the raw, pure goodness that we use to make chocolate. We are going all out in the nutrient department here, and you can’t get any more awesome than raw cacao powder!
When it comes to skincare, cacao hops right on board the UV protection train! The theobromine in chocolate interferes with signaling pathways in the skin that are altered by UV exposure, helping to reverse the damage (source). And it doesn’t even stop there! The flavanoids in cacao provide further protection against UV damage and even help to prevent photoaging (that’s when sun damage ages our skin prematurely) (source). Totally awesome, right?
The fun doesn’t stop there. Cacao also increases blood flow to the skin! Just like coffee, cacao wants to leave that skin of yours happy and glowing. It even improves your skin’s hydration and evens out your complexion. Super cool!
According to Doctor Jessica Wu, a dermatologist and the author of Feed Your Face, a cacao mask is an awesome way to keep your skin clear. But she recommends that you make your own since a lot of pre-packaged face masks aren’t always as friendly to your skin as you might like to think (source). But hey – DIY face masks are super easy so we’ve totally got this!

Chocolate Coffee DIY Face Mask
This is a simple recipe that will give you enough for one mask. But you can easily double it if you want to enjoy it with a friend. Or make a bigger batch and store it in the fridge for a few days of skin care fun. It’s like meal prepping but for self care time. I can totally get behind that!
Fair warning – since coffee and cacao increase blood flow to the skin you may have a little bit of redness when you rinse this off. But it’s totally natural and goes away super quickly! So don’t you worry <3.
Of course if you have sensitive skin do a little patch test first to make sure that there’s no irritation. We want your pretty little face to be a happy camper.
