How To Make An Amazing Smoothie

An above show of a healthy blueberry smoothie. It's a bright purple colour and has 2 blueberries sitting on top. There is a blue and white striped straw sitting in it. And some blueberries sit on the table, surrounding the glass.

The first rule of smoothie club is that there are no rules! Ok, maybe a few rules (you definitely want to end up with something edible). But smoothies are so flexible.

If you’re completely new to smoothies, have fun trying different recipes to see what sort of blends you prefer. I’ve got 4 waiting for you today (just scroll on down gorgeous!)

But I also wanted to help you become a smoothie making pro too. So if you’re a smoothie newbie, here are a few tips…

3 colourful healthy smoothies sit in a row. The one of the left is a green smoothie, the gender a yellow smoothie and the right a red smoothie. They all have a striped staw that is white and the colour of the smoothie.

Follow this general ingredient guideline:

  • 2 cups of fruits and/or veggies to your blender (fresh or frozen)
  • 1.5 to 2 cups of liquid (I usually go for almond or coconut milk)
  • 1/2 cup of yogurt or nut butter (optional)
  • 1 to 2 tsp of sweetener or to taste (I prefer maple syrup)

Toss everything into a blender and blend away.

2 creamy, light brown smoothies sit on a table. You can see almonds and bananas in the backgroudn. Crushed almonds sit on top of the smoothie. And there is a brown and white striped straw sitting in the front cup.

Pro tips:

Place the harder to blend items in the blender first. For example, if you’re using frozen fruit or kale, you want that right by the blades so they don’t wind up chunky.

In fact, sometimes I break things up a little before I add any other ingredients. This is my go to move with frozen strawberries. They’re chunky delights, so I like to make sure they’re blended really well!

It’s ok to stop blending, stir and then keep going too. Sometimes things need a little help coming together.

Every smoothie is a little different. Have fun and make it yours!

A yellow smoothie in a mason jar sits on a table. There are bananas, a lemon and a pineapple sitting in the backgroudn. And the smoothie has 2 straws in the glass. A yellow and white striped straw and a green and white striped straw.

Your smoothie can be as thick or as thin as you want.

More frozen produce and less liquid will give you a delicious smoothie bowl you can eat with a spoon! More liquid and less frozen fruits and veggies gives you a thinner smoothie you can sip on or even enjoy with a straw.

There’s even a super yummy healthy smoothie recipe trend called nice cream (it’s basically smoothie meets ice cream. Trust me, you want in on this!)

    Let’s Start Blending

Here are 4 delicious smoothie recipes for you to try! Feeding yourself something yummy is a beautiful form of self-care. So have fun and enjoy every decadent minute. <3

    1. Creamy Green Smoothie Goodness

Someone holds 2 glasses full of green smoothie. They're playing them both onto a table.

One easy way to eat more greens is to toss them in your smoothie. This beautiful, green smoothie might be full of kale, but the banana and cinnamon really shine in the flavour department. It doesn’t taste as green as it looks.

Whether you’re a lean, mean, green eating machine or a bit hesitant about the veggie train, a green smoothie can totally work for you.

    • 2 Generous Pinches Cinnamon
    • 2 Tbsp Maple Syrup

    1. Blend and enjoy!

    2. Creamy Strawberry Delight Smoothie

A pink strawberry smoothie sits on a table. It has a pink straw sticking out and a single strawberry resting on top. There are strawberries sitting on the table, surrounding the glass.

Canned coconut milk makes everything more awesome. And when you add it to a smoothie, you have one creamy, delicious glass of goodness. It gives it a milkshakey texture (which is why I love to use canned coconut milk to make nutritious milkshakes).

Throw strawberries into the mix, and it’s basically food heaven. I can’t wait for you to try this one:

    Instructions

    1. Blend and enjoy! You can add a little maple syrup if you need some extra sweetness.

    3. Watermelon Strawberry Smoothie Supreme

A close up of a watermelon smoothie. There's a white straw sitting in the cup and a few mint leaves, as well as a strawberry slice.

Sometimes it’s best to keep things simple. And this healthy smoothie recipe does just that! We only need 3 ingredients and we have delicious magic. And you can even turn this into a nice cream bowl by freezing your banana and watermelon chunks. Yum town, population you!

    4. Watermelon Blueberry Summer Smoothie

2 Blueberries smoothies sit on a table. They have pink straws with white polka dots in them. And there are blueberries on the table, resting on either site of the cupts.

This is basically a green smoothie that isn’t green. That’s right, there’s a handful of greens hiding in this purple glass of yum. Surprise!

Ready to try it? Here’s the recipe:
