Would You Try a Butt Mask? I Did… Here’s What You Need To Know

Hello Sweet Friends:

Hands up if your skin care routine is a beautiful part of your self-care routine. Me too!

And I bet trying new things is always fun? 100% same.

When I heard that butt masks were a thing my reactions went like this: What?! Since when?! Let’s try it!

While there are booty sheet masks and other things on the market, I decided to make my own with clay. Because what’s good enough for my face must be good enough for my behind… right? Right???

Here’s what happened…

The Homemade Butt Mask Experiment

A photo of a someone's butt, they're wearing white panties that say Bad Ass across the back in orange. You can see adorable cellulite dimples on their left butt cheek.

Instagram told me to do it. And, while my second attempt went well… attempt number one was a bit of a disaster.

Picture this – I’ve got a booty covered in charcoal, chilling in my bathroom when… my sister calls. And, look, normally I wouldn’t answer the phone. But (butt!!!), without getting into specifics, this was a phone call I absolutely had to answer. Did I mention it was a video call?! Talk about bad timing.

Skip to me shimmying to my bedroom so I can lay down on my stomach and talk to her while the butt mask dried. No booties were flashed in the making on this blog post, don’t worry!

I learned 2 things that day…

The behind of a naked statue. They're holding a blanket that covers their front

Number 1 – Don’t do a homemade butt mask when you’re anticipating an important call. There is a 99.9% chance that call will come when your pants are down. It’s simply the rules of the universe.

Number 2 – Maybe charcoal isn’t the best option… let’s just say that cleaning up the black dusts all over my bedsheets was not my idea of a good time. That stuff seems to flake off into teeny, tiny little black snowflakes the moment it dries! Black. Dust. Everywhere.

Mess and awkwardness aside, the results were awesome enough that I decided to try again.

But I went with bentonite clay instead. And the experience was much smoother (no phone calls, no sheets to clean). I’ll call that a win!

Speaking of Smoother

A pear that's bottom is shaped like a butt. The backdrop is white.

My butt felt AMAZING. Baby soft! And that’s no coincidence…

This study showed that using clay face masks on the regular can lead to an increase in collagen fibers in the skin. Which can lead to stronger, smoother skin. And I can confidently say that you’re gorgeous posterior gets to enjoy the same gains. Why hello baby smooth peach!

Clay, in general, can help with your skin’s complexion. It may reduce acne-causing bacteria by creating a “water-poor” environment on your skin (bacteria is not a fan). And, since it’s super absorbent, clay masks are cleansing, cleaning up dirt, oil and dead skin cells. (source)

We’ve all experienced butt pimples. We will all experience butt pimples again. It looks like booty clay masks might help some in that department. Total win!

A close up shot of someone's butt. They're wearing a black thong and have beautiful stretch marks.

Even better, you get all that with as little as 2 ingredients (clay and water – boom, you’re done!)

And, yes, normally I enjoy all this goodness on my face, but we’ve got skin head to toe, right? It was weird, silly and fun to flip this self-care activity over (literally) and give the skin on my buns a little extra love.

Want in? Here’s how you can do it…

How To Make a Homemade Butt Mask

A white bowl full of bentonite clay, ready to make a butt mask. A white spoon lays on the white table beside the bowl. Green leaves decorate the table.

First and foremost, make sure you aren’t expecting an important call. I cannot stress this enough!

Choose your favourite base ingredient. I’ve tried Bentonite and Charcoal. Green clay or kaolin clay could work well too.

Mix 2 Tablespoons of clay with 2 Teaspoons or more of water and stir. You want a thick, mud like consistency. Everyone’s peach is a different size, so don’t hesitate to make more or less if you need to. Feel free to add essential oils like lavender if you’d like some aroma therapy too.

Spread that mixture on your gorgeous behind. Relax for 10 to 15 minutes while it dries. I recommend laying on your stomach and getting lost on TikTok.

Then remove with warm water and a face cloth and pat dry (a hot bath or shower is a nice way to wash the butt mask off too). And then moisturize! And take a minute to admire yourself, because daannnnggg you look good!

Final Thoughts

A group of women wearing lingerie. They are different different shapes and sizes. a reminder that everyone body is beautiful.

This was new, weird and fun. Poorly timed phone call aside, I think I’d be down for the occasional butt mask. Bonus points, this also gives you the opportunity to love and appreciate a part of your body you might not always be so kind to. Your body deserves kindness and love, head to toe.

To be honest, I’m chuckling a bit just by reading your article imagining what a butt mask is, But what the heck, it’s perfectly fine to strive to look attractive from all angles.

Charcoal is such a mess. It has so many benefits but the clean up can be time consuming. The butt mask is interesting and something to consider.

It really is! I usually hang around the bathroom sink when I use it on my face. Had I not been interrupted it probably would have turned out much better hahaha. Maybe I’ll give it another chance sometime. Thank you so much Dr. Elise 🙂
