Hello Lovelies:

Creating a healthy beauty routine can be incredibly fun and exciting. But it can also be a bit difficult to find replacements for old favourite. Which means that sometimes we have to get a little creative! The good news is that it’s not as hard as it may seem. In fact, you probably have a ton of awesome healthy beauty options waiting for you in your kitchen!

Here are 5 of my fave healthy beauty hacks you’re gonna adore:

5 Awesome Healthy Beauty Hacks

Honey and Lemons

I drink lemon juice every morning and add honey to my tea and many of my desserts. Both have incredible antifungal and antibacterial properties, making them great health foods and wonderful candidates for an easy facial mask. Lemons help to brighten and balance your skin tone and honey is natural humectant, making it a moisturizing superstar! Together they can fight blackheads and breakouts, cleanse your pores, even-out your complexion and hydrate your lovely skin.

Ingredients

Juice of half a lemon

Tablespoon of raw honey

Instructions

Mix the two ingredients together and massage the mixture onto clean, dry skin. Let sit for approximately 10 minutes. Remove with lukewarm water.

Honey’s moisturizing qualities make for a great hair conditioner as well! You can add lemon to the mix if you want some extra shine, but beware; lemons can lighten your hair. I would recommend skipping the lemon juice if you don’t want a lighter mane.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil seems like a godsend in the kitchen; I can’t get enough of this delicious, health-supporting oil! It’s the only oil I’ll use in the frying pan and a key element in many of my recipes. Coconut oil also has a permanent spot on my washroom counter. Not only is it great for supporting your dental health with oil pulling, it makes a fantastic moisturizer! I love to smother it all over my body after a bath, and apply it to my face before bed. This baby will leave your skin silky smooth and it’s quick to absorb so you don’t have to feel gross and slimy.

Need an effective, gentle makeup remover?

Coconut oil’s got your covered! Cosmetics don’t stand a chance against it! It’s even safe against your beautiful, delicate eyelids. Rub a dollop of oil between your fingers to soften it up and smooth it over your skin. Remove with a cotton ball or washcloth and you’ll have a happy, clean, moisturized face! Not to mention, you’ll smell fantastic!

Is your hair a little on the dry side? Hoping for some extra shine? Coconut oil is a wonderful deep conditioner! Generously work it through slightly damp hair and let it sit for an hour. Afterwards, follow your regular hair cleansing routine and say hello to soft, gorgeous locks!

Corn Starch

Ever wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and think “damn, I’m having a good hair day!” and you grin with joy until you notice that your roots are looking a little greasy? These used to be the days that I would sigh and throw my hair up in a messy bun, pining for the sexy hair day that could have been. Thankfully, corn starch has stepped in and solved my little beauty problem! It’s a fantastic dry shampoo, soaking up oil and leaving you with clean, sexy tresses.

This works best if you keep some corn starch in a spice shaker so that you can distribute it evenly on your scalp. Comb your hair and sprinkle the corn starch onto your head, focusing on the roots, especially the greasy area. You can brush your hair again after if you wish to distribute it more evenly. Style as you wish and enjoy your sassy mane, beautiful one!

Sugar

Stop wasting your hard earned money on harsh, perfume laden body scrubs. Silky smooth, exfoliated skin can be yours with 2 simple ingredients! Sugar and coconut oil make an amazing facial and body scrub! Combine in equal amounts and, if you’re craving an aromatic experience, add a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Voila! I keep a small container of this mix on the washroom counter and use it to cleanse my face. It smells good enough to eat (and hey, you actually could enjoy a bit if you wanted to)! If I want some extra exfoliation in the shower I create a bit more. Here’s how you can create your own:

Exfoliating Sugar Scrub

Ingredients

½ a cup of cane sugar

½ a cup of coconut oil

Optional: 2-3 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil

Instructions

Combine the two ingredient and add essential oils if you wish. And voila, an easy, inexpensive body scrub. Your soft, happy skin will be grateful!
