Hiya Sweet Friend:

Spring has sprung! And with the world in full bloom, something else is also on the horizon… spring cleaning. Blegh!

I know, I know. It’s a daunting task! Cleaning the house from top to bottom isn’t what I’d call exciting, and I’m 100% sure you’ll agree.

Truly, a blood test sounds like more fun…

But it has to be done! And I’ve got some awesome tips to make spring cleaning easy and, weirdly enough, enjoyable. Let’s do this!

1. Get Your Cleaning Supplies Ready

It’s hard to clean without cleaning supplies. And less is more! As much as possible, ditch harsh, toxic cleaners and reach for gentler alternatives. Try eliminating or reducing products containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), fragrances and flammable ingredients.

You can even try some DIY cleaners. It’s amazing what you can do with simple items like vinegar, castile soap and lemons.

2. Break It Down

Cleaning your entire home from top to bottom can be a daunting task. Kick that overwhelm to the curb by focusing on one room at a time.

Areas that have been recently cleaned don’t need your immediate attention. Ask yourself what spaces in your home have been neglected throughout the winter and prioritize those.

Then create a check list for each room so that you can break your spring cleaning into easy, achievable chunks. You’ve got this!

3. Clear The Clutter

Clutter can trigger stress. So take spring cleaning as the perfect de-cluttering opportunity. As you tackle your rooms little by little, organize your spaces. And remember to recycle, rehome or donate items that you don’t use or want.

Not quite ready to let go? Storing items you don’t use often is another way to keep them on hand but out of the way. If you’re able to, create some space in your garage, basement or spare room to store items.

4. Get The Whole Family Involved

Everyone can be a big help when you spring clean, no matter how little. Divvy up age appropriate chores so that the whole family can get involved. You can even make it fun, with some friendly competition, games and rewards, like a special dessert or family movie night.

5. Take Your Time

Spring cleaning doesn’t need to happen in a day, or even a week. Got 15 minutes to spare today? Great! 10 minutes tomorrow? Awesome! Tackling things little by little will help you get a lot done, without all the stress.

Don’t forget to take breaks too. Grab an amazing book, pour yourself a hot bath, and relax.

6. Make It Fun

Put on your favourite tunes, take multiple dance breaks and sing along. Music will make the entire experience more fun, and time will go by so much faster. Not to mention, music reduces fatigue, improves motor coordination and boosts stimulation, making you a happier, more efficient cleaner.

Decluttering is a biggie! I love having a big clear out. It can be really fun to get the whole family involved but it sometimes takes a bit of convincing.

Cleaning makes a difference, especially in these days of COVID and just barely post- COVID. Decluttering is the place to start, though. I have already moved my household in this direction. As a blogger and product reviewer, I have been getting free stuff for over 20 years and it REALLY piles up! Now, I limit myself only to what I really need.

Spring cleaning is more fun with the family. We also take our time in cleaning to make sure no area is left out.

This is all really sound advice. I always try to make sure I have enough cleaning supplies all the time. It all gets broken down into different parts so that it isn’t too overwhelming. I also try to get the kids involved where I can.

I’ve got some clutter built up again that i don’t really need anymore. Seems like it creeps up on you. I’m ready to get it out. My downfall is papers. I save so many papers.
