Hiya Loves:

Do you ever find yourself feeling completely exhausted by Friday? Are you in need of some serious rest and relaxation by week’s end?

Goodness, I totally feel ya! I think we’ve all been there.

Thankfully, weekends are a great opportunity to slow down, do something you adore and refill those batteries.

And while you may have a personal to-do list that you hope to get to on your days off, it’s so important that you take the time to rest, de-stress and unwind too.

Your well-being matters! And self-care plays a huge roll in that. So why not add some self-care Sunday activities to that weekend to-do list?

Need a little inspiration? Here are 15 self-care ideas to help you get your rest on in the best ways possible.

Of course, you don’t have to wait until Sunday to indulge in any of this goodness. Enjoy them whenever you can! Just make a little time for you on that to-do list. You need and deserve it!

Ready to dive in? Let’s do this!

The 15 Best Ways To Enjoy A Self-Care Sunday

A woman enjoys the end of her self-care Sunday by relaxing on a chair outside whilst looking at the sky

Before we dive in, I wanted to remind you that you absolutely don’t need to do all of these awesome activities at once. Overloading your routine makes things stressful, which ultimately defeats the whole purpose of a self-care Sunday.

Pick whatever activities feel right and leave the rest behind. And hey, feel free to get creative and add to the list too! Make it yours.

All right, let’s do this!

1. Spend More Time In Bed

A woman lays in bed reading. More time in bed is a wonderful addition to a self-care Sunday.

Isn’t a little extra time in bed so glorious? I personally adore the opportunity to sleep in on the weekend. It’s pure magic! And if it’s a self-care Sunday activity that works for you, totally go for it!

But sleeping in doesn’t work for everyone, especially if you have trouble sleeping and/or need to stick to a sleep schedule for the sake of your well-being.

The great news is that it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a little more time in bed.

Here are some options for a lazy morning in bed:

    • Take a little time to stretch, welcome the morning
    • Be mindful about how awesome the blankets feel – coziness is amazing <3
    • Sit up, get cozy and write in your gratitude journal to start the day with joy
    • Enjoy some deep breathing or meditation.
    • Read a few chapters in a book
    • Take your time enjoying a glass of water (I don’t know about you, but I always keep one on my bedside to soothe morning thirsties)

You can still enjoy a little more time in bed if sleeping in isn’t for you. Sundays are perfect for lazy mornings!

2. Relax For A While In Your PJs

A woman poses in her pajamas in front of a yellow backdrop.

Morning’s are often so rushed during the week. So even if you don’t give yourself a few extra moments in bed, it’s wonderful to take a minute to sit down, relax and really ease into the day. The more comfortable you are the better.

Keep those fuzzy pajama pants on or throw on your favourite loungewear. Snuggle in a blanket on the couch, sip on some water or tea and welcome Sunday with open arms. Hello relaxation!

3. Treat Yourself To A Special Breakfast

Eat in or go out. Whatever suits your fancy! But treat yourself sweet friend! You deserve it.

Sunday mornings are the perfect day to indulge in a special breakfast that takes a little extra time to prepare. Something delicious that you could never enjoy during the week.

Bonus points if it’s extra decadent.

Need a few ideas? How about these amazing waffles, delicious pancakes, or bonkers awesome smoothies?

4. Enjoy The Great Outdoors

Three friends enjoy some hiking in the woods.

No matter the weather, today is the perfect day to enjoy the great outdoors. Without rush or worry! Go for a walk or hike, sit outside and breathe in the fresh air, find a swing and enjoy, play… Whatever you want! Just take in that sunshine (or rain or snow). It will do you a ton of good!

Getting outside can boost your mood, encourage creativity and increase concentration. Plus, if you suffer from seasonal affective disorder, it can help to reduce your symptoms. Isn’t that awesome? (source 1, source 2)

5. Write In a Journal

A jounal lays open. Pink tulips lay on the pages to the left and a pen and pink and white buttons on the pages to the right.

Journaling can really help to put things into perspective. And writing things down helps to create a more mindful outlook! Which, in turn, tends to boost happiness. It’s all win baby! (source)

Whether you choose to keep a gratitude journal, bullet journal, dreams, thoughts and goals journal or anything else, you are doing yourself a serious kindness. Write away and have fun!

6. Spend Some Time Alone

A woman sits on her couch with her dog, reading a book. A great way to relax during your self-care Sunday.

This is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with yourself. And some time alone is a wonderful way to do just that. It’s an extra special self-care Sunday activity.

Enjoy it any way you want! There are lots of goodies on this list that work awesome as solo activities! Here are some ideas:

    • Take a walk solo
    • Spend a little more lost in a good book
    • Take yourself out on a date to a restaurant or movie
    • Journal or write poetry, stories or ideas
    • Meditate
    • Indulge in a personal hobby

No matter what you do, take the time to reflect and examine your thoughts and emotions. Indulge in a little mindfulness and appreciate where you are and how you’re feeling in this moment.

Making time to reflect on your thoughts, feelings and emotions and truly getting to know yourself is so important for another reason too… It’s a great moment of self-connection. And that can ultimately help to improve your mental health. (source)

Plus, when you check in with yourself and respond to your needs you are a self-love superstar. Booyah!

7. Move Your Gorgeous Body

Someone enjoy a nice solo run in the woods.

Get your boogie on baby! Walk, run, skip, jump. Do yoga poses like some magical, elegant pretzel. Whatever makes you happy!

Exercise has so much to offer your well-being:

    • Supports muscle and bone health
    • Boosts your mood
    • Helps keep that beautiful heart healthy

Self-care doesn’t always need to be a solo activity. In fact, you can easily buddy up for almost anything on this lovely list of self-care Sunday ideas if you want to.

10. Prep Some Meals For The Upcoming Week

A mother and daughter happily meal prepping together.

Life can get pretty busy throughout the week. And if your busy schedule makes cooking breakfast, lunch and/or dinner a stressful thing, you can help yourself out by meal prepping. Because a delicious meal should never be a stressful thing.

Spend a little time putting together some easy meals (and dessert if you’re feeling it) that future you will enjoy. In a way, you’re extending your self-care Sunday goodness into the rest of the week. Go you!

Your health will thank you for the creative release. And it does wonderful things for your spirit!

13. Cuddle Your Fur Babies

A woman cuddles her dog in bed. Cuddling with pets can be a great form of self-care.

Cuddling your fur children is pretty darn wonderful! And oh my goodness, is it every good for your well-being.

A cat’s purr, for example, may help to support your muscle and bone health, relieve stress and symptoms of dyspnea, decrease blood pressure, lower the risk of heart attacks, and heal infections. Seriously! So get your cuddle on! (source)

And dogs pack a lot of awesome goodness too. Simply meeting your dog’s gaze can increase levels of oxytocin, a hormone that helps us form bonds with others and makes us feel more positive. And petting your puppy lowers your blood pressure and increases feelings of relaxation. (source)

So get in some serious pet snuggles. They’re good for you!

I’m all for more time in bed on Sunday. We do go to church that day, so that’s not really an option. When the temps get colder, I do enjoy a day when pj’s stay on longer than my “work clothes”. These are all great self-care ideas.
