That’s a heck of a lot of benefits, eh? And adding a little something to your bath just adds to the lovely self-indulgence. When that little something involves bath oils, your skin gets a little extra ‘something, something’ too.

But what makes these white chocolate and coconut oil bath melts worthy of a spot in your you time? Let’s take a peek…

What Makes Cacao Butter Good For Your Skin?

Cacao butter is deeply hydrating. It can help to soothe dry or irritated skin. And it comes packing with some skin healthy antioxidants and anti-inflammatory prowess. All this wonderfulness can help to protect that gorgeous skin of yours. (source 1, source 2)

Super bonus, it’s delicious, chocolaty smell provides extra aromatherapy. Booyah!

Even cooler, there’s some research that shows that cacao butter may help to prevent and/or treat certain skin diseases, like psoriasis and acne and help with wound healing. (source)

Oh, an cacao might also protect your lovely skin from sun damage. Who knew cacao had so much awesomeness waiting inside. (source)

Coconut Oil Is Awesome For Skin Care Too

Coconut oil comes packed with a fantastic mixture of skin healthy fats. And they’re super moisturizing!

For one thing, those gorgeous fats help to strengthen and increase your skin surface lipid levels (which is a fancy way of saying that they give a nice boost to the oils that fill the spaces between your skin cells while also protecting and moisturizing your skin’s surface). Plus, they’re super hydrating! (source)

Did I mention that this oil provides a little SPF too? This by no means replaces sunscreen! But it’s still pretty cool, don’t you think? (source)

But coconut oils skin care benefits get even cooler…

Coconut oil can bring out the big guns! It’s been shown to take down staphylococcal colonization on the skin. This is an unfriendly bacteria and if you’re like me and deal with eczema you definitely don’t want it hanging out on your skin. Because staphylococcal is more likely to colonize our skin than those without eczema. How rude!

Thankfully, this study found that the coconut oils can take down up to 95% of staphyoloccal colonization in eczema sufferers when used topically. Thank you coconuts!

This means that moisturizing with coconut oil and bathing in oil baths like this one is extra awesome for my eczema brothers and sisters (and still amazing for everyone else ;)).

Long story short, soaking in this goodness is a nice way to be kind to your skin. And, hey, you get to relax at the same time. Win, win yo! Let’s make some.

This recipe makes Approximately 30 Small Oil Bath Melts (depending on the size of your chocolate mould).

You can amp it up with essential oils or leave it as is (it rocks either way)! Super bonus, they’re super simple to put together.

A word of warning – oil will make the tub slippery, so please be careful! Make sure to use a good quality bath mat and, to avoid slipping, add the bath oil melts after you’ve gotten into the tub. It’s also really helpful to give the bath a quick wipe down after you’ve drained the water to remove excess oil.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Cup Cacao Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Coconut Oil
  • 5 Drops Essential Oils Optional - I prefer DoTERRA Sweet Orange or Lavender Oil

Instructions

  1. Melt the cacao butter in a small sauce pan over medium heat, stirring occasionally so that the butter doesn't burn.

  2. After the butter is melted, remove the sauce pan from the heat. If your cacao butter was in big chunks before you melted it, you can double check in a measuring cup at this point to make sure you have 1/4 cup. If you're a bit under, pop it back on the stove and melt a little more.

  3. Once your cacao butter is ready, add the coconut oil. It should melt into the still warm cacao butter fairly quickly; no stove top needed unless it's the middle of winter and your coconut oil is really solid. Stir until well mixed.

  4. Poor the oil mix into a chocolate mould and freeze if you'd like them to be ready faster.

Pro-Tip xD - make sure your mould is on a plate or tray before you fill it. That way you can easily place them in the freezer, since the oil may spill out if you try to carry the mould after you filled it (they're pretty malleable!) I may or may not have made this mistake in the past... 😉

  5. Your white chocolate oil bath melts will harden fairly quickly in the freezer. When they're solid, remove them from the mould and store them in a container in the fridge.

Coconut oil softens at room temperature and will melt in warmer weather, so it's best to keep them cold - otherwise they might not keep their form. If you're worried someone might mistake them for food, make sure to mark these babies as oil bath melts... they definitely wouldn't taste great! And it would be such a sad waste!

  6. When you're ready to soak in the tub and moisturize that beautiful, sexy skin of yours, grab one or two and drop them in the water! Relax, soak up the goodness, and enjoy. You and your skin will love it!

  7. CAUTION - oil will make the tub slippery, so please be careful! Make sure to use a good quality bath mat and, to avoid slipping, add the bath oil melts after you've gotten into the tub. It’s also really helpful to give the bath a quick wipe down after you've drained the water to remove excess oil.

And we’re done! Easy, peasy, right? And won’t it be so nice to relax in the bath while these sweet little oil melts nourish your skin? I can’t wait for you to try them!

No pressure! Nothing is for everyone :). They don’t exactly smell like a chocolate bar. But they are made from cacao butter, so that’s the scent we end up with. There are tons of awesome other options that might have a scent you prefer <3. I hope you treat yourself to something special! Have a beautiful week!
