Remembering Tracy

I lost my dear friend Tracy this Sunday after she spent 5 months bravely battling metastatic breast cancer. She was someone you just loved instantly. So full of joy, it was truly contagious. And I swear to goodness she always had a smile on her face. You couldn’t help but smile too. I know you would have loved her.

I will always admire her resilience and optimism, and I wanted to share some of that with you.

Beautiful Tracy

So here are some inspirational quotes on life that Tracy would have loved, to inspire and uplift you.

Tracy personally adored some of these quotes. And I hope you do too.

5 Inspirational Quotes On Life That Will Empower You

1. Carpe Diem – Seize the Day

5 Inspirational Quotes On Life That Will Empower You | These inspirational quotes about life, self-love and gratitude will leave you feeling excited and empowered to build your best life. This was my biggest life lesson from knowing Tracy. And I know that it’s something that we can all benefit from… Take advantage of today. This moment right now is full of beautiful possibilities. Don’t take it for granted. Seize the day, be as kind and compassionate as you can to yourself and those around you and truly cherish the now.

We are often very future focused. Dreaming, creating goals, working away and setting our eyes on the future prize. Even me – I’ve got dreams for days baby. And hey, all of that can be so awesome! I am by no means encouraging you to stop setting goals and chasing those dreams.

But this moment right now is precious. And your only real guarantee. So remember to stop every now and again, truly take in this amazing moment with awe and gratitude. Make today count.

Tomorrow isn’t always a promise. But today is here. It’s yours. And I hope you remember to take it all in with amazement and appreciation.

Tracy had a carpe diem tattoo on her shoulder that she always displayed proudly. She embodied this lovely inspirational quote and truly believed that it was so important that we make today count.

If your final take away from this post and all of these inspirational quotes on life is to aspire to seize the wonder and opportunity that comes with every day then I am so glad. And I know Tracy would be too.

2. The Cup is Always Half Full

5 Inspirational Quotes On Life That Will Empower You | These inspirational quotes about life, self-love and gratitude will leave you feeling excited and empowered to build your best life. Let's talk about what these inspirational quotes teach us about living a healthy lifestyle and how we can incorporate their ideals into our lives. I know that this is one of those cliché inspirational quotes on life. But hey, sometimes things reach cliché status for a reason, right? And this quote is no exception. Let’s take a peek at what it’s really trying to tell us.

Our perspective is powerful. It’s incredible how our state of mind affects the way we think and feel.

Positive thinking has this amazing effect on our brain’s ability to see possibilities. When you’re in a positive state of mind, more seems possible. And there’s an interesting reason for that.

Have you ever noticed that when you’re feeling negative your mind is laser-focused on that feeling and whatever caused it? It’s like you can barely focus on anything else, right? I know I’ve been there.

This is how our brains deal with negative stimuli. They focus on it. It’s a protection mechanism.

If you suddenly found a tiger in your living room your brain would have one concern… how do we get out of this alive? Laser-focus yo!

It wouldn’t be worried about vacuuming the carpet or clearing out the dishes you left on the table. Because survival is the most important thing. Those dishes can wait.

The thing is – whether you’re afraid of that tiger or fearfully anticipating a confrontation with your friend, your brain’s laser-focus is the same. We put up our blinders and zoom in on what we need to do to protect ourselves from whatever is making us feel negative. It’s part of our survival instinct.

But positive thinking has the opposite effect.

If negative thinking is like zooming in, positive thinking is like zooming out. When you’re in a positive state of mind your brain is focused on all of the possibilities around you. And that’s not just me attempting to be uplifting. It’s actually scientifically proven! (source)

When we aren’t focused on the negative we’re free to focus instead on all of the exciting possibilities that the future holds.

It’s not always possible to see the cup as half full. Negative experiences are part of life and it’s so important that we acknowledge and work through them. But it is possible for us to work on seeing things in a more positive light more often. It might not be easy, but goodness is it every worth it.

This beautiful inspirational quote stood front and center on one of Tracy’s favourite tea cups. She loved tea, so I watched her sip her favourite drinks out of this cup often. It reminds me of the optimism that she embodied, even when things were difficult. It truly inspires me. And I hope that sharing this inspires you too.

3. Happiness is not a goal… it’s a by-product of a life well lived.

5 Inspirational Quotes On Life That Will Empower You | These inspirational quotes about life, self-love and gratitude will leave you feeling excited and empowered to build your best life. Eleanore Roosevelt has so many awesome inspirational quotes on life. It’s hard to pick just one. But I think this one really compliments the idea of trying to see the cup as half full when possible. Don’t you agree?

There’s this love of the pursuit of happiness. Like it’s something that we have to chase. Always just out of reach, slipping through our fingers. The idea makes happiness seem like an achievement. Which, in my opinion, over complicates things and often leaves us feeling unsatisfied.

But what if it wasn’t that complicated? What if happiness was simple? Not something you chase and catch, but instead created by your mindset and experiences? Isn’t that a lovely way of seeing it? It’s like magic!

When you build a positive and loving relationship with yourself, you create happiness. Happiness comes into existence when you feel gratitude. It appears when you bravely face difficult experiences and allow yourself to be vulnerable enough to work through them.

We find happiness when we make someone smile. When we admit defeat but look back and appreciate all that we’ve learned. The moment a dream comes true… There are so many ways to create happiness. I bet you’re even creating it as we speak.

Happiness is the result of a life well lived. And if you’re willing to stop chasing it and instead just look at your life and experiences with a grateful and open mind you will likely notice that happiness has been there with you all along. Waiting for you to acknowledge it.

4. Dare to be what you are and learn to resign with a good grace all that you are not and to believe in your own individuality.

5 Inspirational Quotes On Life That Will Empower You | These inspirational quotes about life, self-love and gratitude will leave you feeling excited and empowered to build your best life. I adore this quote by Henri-Frédéric Amiel. It’s actually one of my personal favourite inspirational quotes on life. Why? Because it’s a powerful reminder to love ourselves. And we all need that reminder now and again.

I’m sure it’s no surprise to you that I think that self-love is hella important (I sure do talk about it a lot, don’t I?) We are all incredibly beautiful and wonderful just as we are. But it’s easy to forget that in a world that pushes you to be something else.

So endeavour to believe in your individuality and gracefully let go of the things that truly aren’t you. Or crudely toss them out the window. Whatever feels more therapeutic!

It takes courage to be yourself. And self-love isn’t always easy. But goodness, is it ever an incredible journey. One that we all deserve to experience.

If you’re wondering why it’s worth your while to dare to be yourself, here’s what happens when you love yourself fiercely:

  • You cope better with stress and negative emotions
  • Your immune health benefits
  • Your cardiovascular health reaps the rewards
  • Health-related anxiety is diminished (woohoo!)
  • You keep your own best-interests at heart

5. Never blame any day in your life. Good days give you happiness, bad days give you experience and the worst days give you a lesson.

5 Inspirational Quotes On Life That Will Empower You | These inspirational quotes about life, self-love and gratitude will leave you feeling excited and empowered to build your best life. This inspirational quote by Dr. Sukhraj Dhillon goes all the way back to our first one – carpe diem. Sometimes we’re not necessarily seizing a good day. But there is something to gained from most experiences, even the negative ones.

Sometimes our greatest struggles give us an incredible amount of strength. And our worst experiences often teach us the most powerful lessons.

It’s strange to try and find gratitude in difficult situations. And it often doesn’t happen instantaneously. It’s a heck of a lot harder to find a little goodness in the darkness.

But when we’re able to, reflecting on a negative experiences and seeing how it helped to shape us can help us move forward. And builds a healthier state of mind.

This isn’t something you have to do alone. Don’t be afraid to seek outside help in the form of friends, family or even a counselor when working through something difficult. It might be a little scary to be so vulnerable, but when you’re ready it’s so worth it to take a moment to revisit some past hardships, dig deep and find a silver lining.

Final Thoughts

Every day is a gift. All of our experiences make us who we are. And ultimately are the building blocks of our beautiful lives. So admire the life you’ve created. Be thankful for it. And move forward with love in your heart, gratitude on your mind and a ton of curiosity.

I hope you enjoyed these inspirational quotes on life and the meaning behind them. And I really hope that you felt a glimmer of the goodness that Tracy exuded. It would mean the world to me if you would keep spreading that goodness by sharing your favourite inspirational quotes on life and what they mean to you with me in the comments. And by living your life to the fullest.

Health and love friends.

And so much love to Tracy. Thank you for being you. You made the world brighter.

Oh Sara, I’m so sorry for your loss. She sounds like a truly inspirational person and your life the better for having known her. I think you make some awesome points- it’s so important to look at the bigger picture and try to focus on what is and not what was or will be. You’re right, we only have the present. And, life is what we make it (half full or empty- it’s about how we choose to look at it!). Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts- you always help me look at things in ways I hadn’t thought of before and I love that!! <3 Jamie

Thank you so much Jamie! That means the world. Tracy definitely touched my life in a special way and I will always cherish that. She lives on in our hearts <3.

I love the way you put that "it’s so important to look at the bigger picture and try to focus on what is and not what was or will be." I think we often get stuck in the "what ifs" of it all and forget to admire and appreciate how far we've come and the lovely life we've created! There is always so much to be thankful for in this present moment. I'm happy you shared those thoughts. I think that's a beautiful way to see things! Thank you so much for sharing love. I'm really glad my own musings give you new perspectives and ways to look at things too! Makes me day <3

      Sending you so much love!

So sorry for you loss Sara 🙁 but I know that she’s still smiling especially with this beautifully awesome post you’ve put together! I love inspirational quotes and one of my favorites is – ‘A ship in harbor is safe – but that is not what ships are built for’ by John A. Shedd. A gentle reminder that we can stay in our comfort zones but life is meant to be lived! Thanks as always for an awesome read 🙂

And what a lovely quote! It's so true. We need to be brave and willing to try and sometimes fail in order to eventually succeed. To experience hurt in order to experience joy... A life well lived involves some risk and, like you said, we need to get out of our comfort zones. Love this! Thank you so much for sharing Cassie 🙂
