Hiya Sweet Friend:

You’re 100% awesome. And around 60 to 70% water. Which means you need to keep your awesome self well hydrated.

I know, I know. Water isn’t exactly the most exciting drink. But I’m not joking when I say it’s a pretty big deal.

So how can you drink more water when you absolutely hate it?

I have a few easy options for you. And I promise, I’m keeping it simple and delicious.

How Much Water Do You Even Need?!

Woman drinking water outside during workout. Behind her is the ocean and a blue sky with fluffy white clouds

It’s 8 glasses per day, right?! Turns out, that isn’t necessarily the case.

According to The National Academy of Medicine (NAM), men need around 3700 ml and woman around 2700 ml of fluid per day. But that includes fluid from your food and other drinks, so don’t start chugging quite yet.

To make things even more confusing, your fluid intake needs fluctuate with your activity level, health, climate and so on. And they’re slightly different for each individual. There’s truly no perfect answer.

The best way to get enough water is to drink when you’re thirsty.

Your body knows what it’s doing! She’ll tell you when she’s craving water.

It can take time, but learning to be mindful of your body’s thirst queues, before you feel parched, helps to prevent you from becoming dehydrated. Which means you can skip out on experiencing dehydration symptoms like headaches, dry mouth and low energy levels. Sounds great, right?

But what if you hate water?!

Here’s how you can get your drink on even when H2O isn’t your fave…

1. Keep A Reusable Water Bottle With You

Water bottle, on wooden pier by the sea, at dawn, summer (bringing a water bottle with you helps you drink more)

Ok, this one may seem obvious… but you can’t drink more water if it isn’t there, girl!

Step 1 is fixing the access problem. Go shopping. Find the cutest water bottle ever. I’m talking a fun colour, adorable designs if that’s your thing, maybe a little sparkle. You want to be excited to carry this cute water canteen around. Because making friends with your water bottle brings you one step closer to making friends with water.

Step 2. Bring that bottle with you. E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E (especially in this summer heat!) If it’s by your side when you’re traveling, working, in class, running errands or chilling at home, it will serve as a sweet visual reminder to stop and take a sip (or gulp) of water.

Plus, as a reusable bottle, you’re being kinder to the environment and reducing waste. Look at you being all fashionable and environmentally conscious. Love that look on you!

2. Invest In a Water Filter

Not enjoying your tap water? That’s totally normal! Some think it tastes great. Others find it tastes like metal and chlorine, #gross. That’s where water filters come in. These bad boys can actually help to improve the taste!

There are so many different filter options, from complex whole-home water filtration systems to simple water-filtering pitchers. Think about your needs and budget and see what options work best for you.

Filters are also more environmentally friendly than plastic bottles. There you go keeping things green again! Holla!

3. Try Fruit Infusions

Different bottles of water infused with fruit. You can see blueberries, raspberries, mint leaves, lemon and line. Infusing your water with fruit can make it more flavourful and help you drink more.

Who said water was best served solo? Infusions are where it’s at.

You can customize your infusion to your specific tastes, so it’s perfectly catered to marvelous you!

Not sure where to start? Give these delish combos a try:

  • Strawberry, Lemon and Mint
  • Cucumber and Lime
  • Blueberry and Pineapple

Here’s how to put it all together:

  1. Choose your fruit combos
  2. Chop up the fruit and add them to the bottom of your mason jar or bottle (you can also use a fruit-infuser water bottle)
  3. Add Water
  4. Optional – press lightly on the fruit with a spoon to release some of the juice and boost flavour
  5. Refrigerate for at least an hour (or overnight) to allow the fruit to infuse
  6. Enjoy

Yum town, population you! You’ll be drinking like a Water Queen in no time.

4. Enjoy Some Tea

Fruit isn’t the only way to make your water more delicious. Go get your tea on!

There are so many tasty options! From classics like black or green tea, to herbal delights, like ginger, chamomile and peppermint. And let’s not forget about all of the delightful blends!

Caffeine is a mild diuretic, but if you’re in good health, a few cups a day will still provide a generous boost to your fluid intake. And, hey, decaf and herbal teas are there for you too. So you can easily keep it caffeine free.

Plus, you’ll have another excuse to go shopping! Invest in a cute thermos and your tea will be warm and by your side all day.

Prefer a cold drink? Try making cold brew iced tea instead.

5. Add More Water-Heavy Foods To Your Diet

  • Watermelon
  • Strawberries
  • Cantaloupe
  • Peaches
  • Oranges
  • Honeydew Melon
  • Grapefruit
  • Lettuce
  • Celery
  • Zucchini
  • Cabbage
  • Cucumber
  • Tomatoes
  • Bell Peppers
  • Cauliflower

Pick a few faves to snack on throughout the day, create a bomb salad or wrap or add them to your favourite meals. Water never tasted so dang good!

Final Thoughts

Drinking enough is important. But it doesn’t have to be hard, boring or gross. With so many ways to boost the flavour and get your water on, drinking more is a cinch. Even if water isn’t your BFF.

Most importantly, learn to tune into your own thirst queues. Your body will tell you when it’s thirsty. Keep a drink on hand and respond when needed. You’re doing great!

Soup is your friend if it is a good healthy soup that is low in sodium. That is where most people get into the weeds.

I always had trouble remembering to drink enough water until I started carrying a large reusable water bottle. Having that visual reminder of how much more I need to drink for the day has made a huge difference in my hydration!

I love water so much, and I am glad that I am not having problem drinking that.
Sometimes I make fruit infusion or smoothie as a substitute for my water.

I love water! Especially when drinking it cold… it’s so refreshing! My mom hates water… we got her a reusable bottle, and it somehow helped. But she still needs to stop craving for tasty drinks.
