3 Delicious, Nutritious, Healthy Smoothies

Share The Love!

Hello Lovelies:

I’m late with my weekly love this weekend; I got hit by a nasty cold bug and I’ve been nursing myself back to health. That means lots of rest, lots of self-care and a ton of hydration – especially with filling, nutritously awesome, healthy smoothies. Everything else has been placed lovingly on the back burner.

Want to join me on the healthy smoothie train? I’ve got some awesome recipes for you below!

Delicious, Nutritious, Healthy Smoothie Recipes - Two lovely green smoothies featuring spinach, kale and avocado and one chocolate smoothie for of healthy, raw cacao. Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Delicious

We all know the importance of hydration when you’re feeling under the weather. Dehydration can worsen a fever, increase symptoms of nausea and add to that disgusting mucus build up that was horrible enough already thank you very much! It’s pure and simple; your body needs water.

I love to turn to smoothies in the best of times! It’s an easy, nutritious breakfast on the go, an incredible, healthy treat, and this weekend, it’s been something to sip away at to keep me hydrated and, super bonus, well nourished (a hard thing to do when you don’t feel like eating anything).

I have a few go-to favourites! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve likely seen some of my morning go-tos (and if you don’t, whatcha doing missing out on all this delicious goodness?). For all my health foodies, smoothie enthusiasts and fellow sickies (we’ll get better, I promise!), here are some of my favourites, all in one convenient place!

The Chocoholic

Heck yea, healthy smoothies can include a dose of delicious chocolate! Bet you didn’t see that one coming!

Delicious, Nutritious, Healthy Smoothies - Creamy Chocolate Smoothie

There’s two ways you can make this nutritious, chocolaty magic! Remember my Hot Chocolate with Maple Whipped Cream?

Healthy Smoothies - Delicious Hot Chocolate for a Chocoholic Smoothie

The first Chocoholic smoothie was the result of a leftover cup of Hot Chocolate. If you find yourself with some leftovers in need of drinking (and don’t feel like reheating) you can blend it with:

Ingredients

1/2 an Avocado
1 Cup of Pineapple Slices
Handful of spinach
1/2 a Banana
2 Tbsps of Honey
Juice of half a lemon

No leftovers to be found? No worries! Just add this to the mix:

Ingredients

2 Cups of Maple Water (Like Seva) or nut milk of choice

1/4 Cups of Cacao Powder (Like Navitas)

1 TBSP of Maple Syrup

1/2 Can of Full Fat Coconut Milk

Instructions

Once again, blend until smooth and enjoy this chocolate delight with absolutely no guilt! You’re once again consuming the wonderful digestive enzyme bromelain, prebiotics, carotenoids, vitamin A, B2, B6, C, E, and K, manganese, electrolytes like potassium, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium. But on top of that you’ve got Cacao – Loaded with antioxidants, iron, and fibre, as well as the amazing phenylethylamine. Want to learn more about Cacao and discover another simple, delicious recipe? Check out my Coocoo for Cacao post here.

Sip on these goodies when you’re craving a snack, prep them the night before and seal them in mason jars for breakfast (yes, you will lose some nutrients, but it’s still a lot better than sugary cereal, coffee, or nothing), use them to keep hydrated when you’re sick… They’re so delicious; I know you won’t be disappointed!

Here’s to feeling better in no time!

Health and love,

Hi Sara ! Nice blog…Just wondering if using frozen fruit is as good or should I use them fresh ? In the winter not easy to find the fresh one at a good price…?

Hi Farid! Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
You can certainly use frozen fruit. It will give your smoothie a bit more of a frosty consistency, which is never a bad thing. I sometimes freeze my bananas when I’m in the mood for that. Just be careful with your blender; you may have to blend a few things at a time, as frozen chunks of fruit are harder to blend and too much may cause certain blenders to stall or break.
Hope you enjoy these as much as I do! (I’m drinking a bavocado smoothie right now!)
