Hello Lovelies:

Do you find yourself dealing with chapped lips on the regular? Looking for a moisturizing lip balm with ingredients that you can feel good about? This Pomegranate Honey DIY Lip Balm has you covered! And did I mention it’s so delicious you may find yourself wanting to eat the whole damn tin?

Spoil your lips to this yummy recipe:

Why Make Your Own Lip Balm?

Not only is it super fun to create your own DIY lip balm, but it also allows you to control what ingredients you’ll be putting in your body.

Remember how I mentioned that this balm tastes good? That’s because there’s really no way you can put something on your lips without ingesting at least a little.

Think about all the things you snack on throughout the day. All the drinks that find their way into your body. It’s impossible that your lip care products aren’t finding their way into your mouth. And it’s probably more than just a little! Which is why I like to be extra careful about what I’m putting on my lips (and I think you should be too).

Some lip care products don’t have the nicest ingredients. Certainly not ingredients you’d want to eat. But when you put something on your lips on the regular you’re pretty well ingesting it on the regular too.

Don’t quite believe it? When the EWG studied body burden they discovered that the average person has approximately 300 different chemicals in their system. Many of which you really don’t want hanging out in that gorgeous body of yours.

We’re talking potential reproductive and developmental toxins and known or probable human carcinogens, among other things… all through our personal care products (source).

Kind of takes the care out of personal care, right? But we can fix that by reading ingredient labels and, when we want to have a little extra fun, making our own stuff! Woohoo!

And if you’re really feeling it, you can make your own face mask, hair mask, sugar scrub and more right here too.

Why This DIY Lip Balm is the Bomb

Deliciously Simple Pomegranate Honey DIY Lip Balm

You have no need to worry about any of the ingredients here! Everything is natural and safe to consume. Booyah!

We’ve got honey, a natural humectant, which means that it’s a moisturizing superstar! Olive oil brings Vitamin E and Oleic Acid to the table. Both help to soothe and moisturize dry skin and oleic acid can potentially relieve inflammation. Chapped lip heaven!

Super bonus on the olive oil front – this study found that, when applied topically, olive oil helped to fight against UV damage, even after the fact! Pretty exciting, right?

Coconut oil continues to add goodness to the moisturizing front! But it also brings some really cool antifungal and antibacterial properties to the table (source 1, source 2). Not a bad thing to keep on our lips, that’s for sure!

Pomegranate pops in to add a hint of gorgeous colour. But there’s far more to it than that! The ellagic acid in pomegranates may help to reduce collagen break down, keeping that gorgeous skin of yours firm and youthful (source). Hello beautiful lips!

Beeswax comes in to bring it all together, acting as a natural thickening agent. But it also helps to create a nice protective barrier for your skin, letting those moisturizers do their work while it holds them all in place.

Sounds pretty awesome right? Ready to make your own?

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp Pomegranate Seeds
  • 2 Tsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 Tsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Tsp Honey
  • 2 Tsp Beeswax

Instructions

  1. Mash a tbsp of pomegranate seeds, making sure to squish out all of the juice. Don't be afraid to get your hands in there if need be! It's like grape stomping, except with your fingers. 😉

Separate the juice from the seeds and set aside.

  2. In a small saucepan, melt the coconut oil, honey and beeswax over medium heat.

Some beeswax will stick to the pan. Make sure it's a saucepan you don't mind setting aside for DIY beauty project.

  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add in the pomegranate juice and olive oil, mixing well.

  4. Quickly poor into a lip palm tin (fills 1 to 2) and let cool.

  5. Use to moisturize your lips as needed (it'll taste good enough to eat!) Enjoy <3

To add to the fun – you can make beautiful, free custom printable labels for your lip balm right here.

I hope you love this as much as I do! Enjoy <3

Love this! Question: Has anyone had this spoil on ’em after a while? How long does this store?

Thank you Prashanth! I’m really happy to hear that you enjoy it. I’ve never had one spoil on me and haven’t had anyone mention to me that theirs have either. However, if you were to make one but didn’t plan on using it often I would recommend storing it in the fridge to allow it to last longer. Most honey/beeswax lip balm blends will last about a year but the pomegranate could potentially shorten that life span.

Thank you for asking such an important question! Hope you enjoy this recipe 🙂
