Changing your diet can seem incredibly daunting and it can be difficult to know where to start. The overwhelming idea of revamping the way we eat everyday can leave us feeling like a deer caught in headlights; we know that we should make a move, but we’re so intimidated that we simply stay where we are. But in all honesty, eating a diet made up of healthy food is not only one of the best things that you can possible do for your general well being, it’s actually not as complicated as it seems. Sometimes it can be as simply as making some healthy food swaps. Making healthy swaps over time can truly make a huge difference.
What’s hot pink, healthy as heck and delicious as can be? Steamed beetroot hummus! I know you may be giving me skeptic eyes, but I swear to you this hummus is incredibly divine. How, you ask? Because that overpowering, earthy flavour that beets often convey has been soothed by a blend of chickpeas, rosemary and, my not so secret ingredients, maple syrup!
Once upon a time I was a devout processed food junkie who detested the idea of healthy eating. Today I eat healthy all day, every day. I don’t have ‘cheat days’, count calories or worry about my weight, and I never have to say no to dessert. It’s been a complete 180. Becoming a healthy foodie is one of the best things that I ever did for myself. It’s part of my self-love language; my body deserves to be fed with love. And it’s allowed me to thrive with Graves Disease, something I never could have imagined 4 years ago.
I could have made this transition sooner. If only I had known how easy and fulfilling healthy eating could be. I believed that a healthy lifestyle was built on sacrifices, but in actually it’s built on adjustments. There were so many healthy eating myths that held me back for years… that hold many of us back from making the switch to a healthier lifestyle. It’s time we shatter those misconceptions and move forward (with a healthy body and a happy sweet tooth).
