A couple of weeks ago, we talked about some awesome additions you can add to your self-care routine. A hot bath with a good book is one of my personal favourite self care activities. It’s such a good way to relax and unwind. I try to make time for it a few times a week. But I also like to make sure that I don’t dry out my skin in the process. Definitely an unwanted hot bath side effect… Which is why I love to make my own oil bath melts.
You can totally enjoy a nice, hot bath on the regular and still keep your skin healthy, soft and nourished too! Let me show you how to make these marvelous White Chocolate and Coconut Oil Bath Melts that can help you do just that.
Confession time – I have never liked the taste of coffee, but I have ALWAYS loved the smell. I sneak through the coffee aisle for a moment of aroma therapy whenever I have the chance. While I don’t keep coffee on hand to drink, I do keep it on hand for homemade self-care products. This grounded coffee scrub is a personal fave. With only 3 ingredients, it’s incredibly easy to make. Your nose and your skin will thank you.
Creating a healthy lifestyle that works for you is an incredibly rewarding experience… but it can also be complicated and confusing, especially when it comes to navigating through a sea of self-care products and complex ingredients. Many of us desire beautiful, youthful looking skin and there are an array of moisturizing products offering us just that. But how do you weed out the good from the bad? What should you be looking for in your moisturizer? I’m here to help you do just that!
I used to horde a massive supply of perfumes, makeup, body scrubs and other junky products. When I started my journey on the road to health-esteem I purged my beauty supplies and set out to find ways to develop a healthy beauty routine. Luckily there are lots of awesome options out there! If you peek around you can find wonderful clays, essential oils, amazing deodorants… but sometimes you’ll still need to get creative.
Here are some of my favourite Natural DIY Healthy Beauty Hacks:
A lot of lovely things come naturally to me: I can easily create delicious, healthy recipes, I’m fairly skilled in guitar and music in general, I have a knack for numbers… but one unfortunate thing that always came easily is plaque and cavities. My entire life I’ve dreaded each visit to the dentist, knowing there was likely something unpleasant to discuss. I have TMJ dysfunction (that’s thankfully under control), I wore braces for 6 years and I’ve received more x-rays, needles and time in the dentist’s chair than I’m happy to recount. When I discovered that many autoimmune disease have a negative effect on dental health I knew I had to spice up my dental health care game in order to avoid any unpleasantry. I take my dental hygiene very seriously! Which is why I was stoked to discover coconut oil pulling.
There are many building blocks to good health. A great nutritional foundation is certainly one of them, but it doesn’t end there. You are what you eat and drink, but you are also what you think. Our thoughts have the ability to build us up or knock us down. They also have the ability to support or hinder our health. It is so important that you are mindful of the way you think, especially when it comes to what you think about yourself. Self love is one of the healthiest things you can do for your beautiful body. But it’s not always the easiest.
I love to end the day with a relaxing bath and a good book. It’s a wonderful way to warm up, wind down, and spend some time alone with your thoughts. Baths have always been my go to relaxation ritual; something that nourished my mind and my spirit. However, there was a time when baths were also a completely unhealthy ritual. Before my health-esteem journey I bathed in a disgusting overload of bubble baths, soaps, oils, fragrances and more. Imagine how horrified I was when I discovered all of the unhealthy chemicals that I had been soaking in for hours at a time.
According to the EWG, on average, women use approximately 12 products per day, containing around 168 unique ingredients. Some of these ingredients might not be the best options for your health. In fact, 1 out of every 24 women are exposed to potential reproductive and developmental toxins through our personal care products. Definitely not something I want to add to my relaxing bath routine.
I was initially perplexed. How could I turn my favourite self-care ritual into something that also nourished my body? That’s when I discovered that I could create my own bath products, and have complete control over what I’d be soaking in for hours.
Here are 3 of my favourite relaxing bath recipes.
What do you do when life gives you lemons? You make lemon water!
Lemon water is how I start every morning. It’s a daily ritual rich in hydration, vitamin c, and let’s be honest, delicious lemon flavour. I drink a tall glass of room temperature water with the juice of half a lemon first thing every day.
You may be wondering why this simple task is a daily must for me. Here are a few reasons why I highly recommend you try it.
