6 Healthy Travel Tips for an Awesome Vacation

My Lovelies:

Travel is an exhilarating, awesome experience. But it can also be frustrating and stressful if you have digestive issues and it can be easy to fall off of the healthy habits train. With good planning you can travel like a Health Esteem Queen.

Here are some of my go to healthy travel tips:

Healthy Travel Tips for an Awesome Vacation - How to maintain your healthy diet and ensure that you are comfortable and happy while you travel

Bring your favourite pillow

Not only does it allow you to have the comfort of home with you as you stay in strange places, it also helps to create a good night sleep. Being well rested lets you enjoy the experience to the fullest.

Be prepared with lots of healthy snack options

It’s good to have a lot of healthy goodness to reach for on your journey. When you travel your schedule often changes, your environment is different, but your eating habits don’t have to take a nose dive. This will make for a happier, healthier trip because drastic dietary changes can often lead to tummy troubles (I have some soothing solutions for you here just in case) and other unpleasant symptoms like headaches and drowsiness. Who wants to feel crumby when they’re trying to enjoy their vacation?

My favourite travel snacks recommendations include:

Prana Trail Mixes

Camino Dark Chocolate

Grace Coconut Chips

Que Pasa Corn Chips

Humus

Berries

Bananas

Call ahead to see if your hotel or cabin have a mini fridge or kitchenette

I personally prefer cabins so that I can cook what I want and not have to worry about stomach issues while I’m off adventuring. Regardless, a mini fridge can go a long way. You can keep your perishable snacks cool; visit the local grocery store to snag some odds and ends in order to make your stay more comfortable. I love getting local veggies and making salads and wraps when I’m away.

Don’t forget to bring a cooler so you can take all the goodies with you on the road. Picnics in the wilderness are always wonderful!

Research healthy, local restaurants

Need to be gluten or lactose free? Looking for organic and/or vegetarian options? It’s good to be aware of what’s available ahead of time so that you can simply relax and enjoy the experience. It’s never fun to feel like you have no options available. Knowing if they offer delivery is a great idea too, in case you want a relaxed night in in your pjs.

Don’t forget pain killers and remedies

I never leave the house without Peppermint Oil and Bear Balm. As I described in Tummy Trouble Solutions, these babies are amazing saviours when you’re not feeling well. Not only can they help soothe an angry stomach, but Bear Balm works wonders for a headache as well.

Peppermint oil offers a scent that’s so invigorating; a mini diffuser usually gets to adventure with us. Other great options are lavender oil for a good night sleep and Julia Lawless Sinus Blend Oils if you experience summer allergies. Peppermint Tea, Coconut Oil and shea butter are also musts for me.

If you have something that helps you feel comfortable and at home (especially when you aren’t feeling well), make sure to bring it with you.

Stay Hydrated

Dehydration is awful! It makes you weak, sluggish and dizzy, causes dry mouth, headaches, constipation and leads to a feeling of exceeding thirst and hunger. And it can also cause constipation, which is no fun, especially if you’re traveling.

This horrible scenario should be avoided at all costs. Bring some great drink options with you. A filtered water pitcher and a glass or metal bottle allows you to have water on the go. If you want something with a little flavour coconut water or maple water are packed full of electrolytes. Healthy smoothies will hydrate and nourish you when you’re on the run and kombucha offers a wonderful dose of bacterial flora for your happy intestines.

Keep it simple and keep it coming! Your body will thank you and your trip will be far more rewarding.

Your vacation should be a relaxing, healthy, happy experience. With some forethought and a few essential items you can make your away time the stress free, health supporting break that you deserve. You’ve earned it!

I hope that these healthy travel tips are super helpful. Wishing you joy and happy, healthy travels!
