Heck yea! It’s all about the ingredients baby! When you make a few healthy food swaps you’re working on a whole new level in the dessertosphere. Making your own desserts helps you avoid all of the unhealthy, pointless fillers you’ll find in many processed options (along with all of the other questionable ingredients they like to throw in there). And you can choose what you do put in your body when you’re the one putting everything together, which is pretty freaking wonderful in my books. I Never Thought I’d Be a Healthy Foodie Because I LOVE Dessert
My sweet tooth used to hold me back. I would have never considered becoming a healthy foodie if it weren’t for Graves Disease, because, in my mind, a healthy diet would be boring, bland and definitely lacking in the dessert department. And I know I’m not the only one who’s felt that way. Hands up if you’re on the same boat!
However, discovering that I had an incurable illness was a total game changer. I knew I needed to support my well-being as much as possible, which, of course, included learning how to feed my body with kindness. But you bet your bippy I stubbornly held on to my love of all things sweet and eagerly searched for ways to make that happen in a healthy way.
I succeeded my friend! And I was shocked to learn that there’s tons of healthy dessert options out there waiting to be discovered. Seriously… I’ll never go back. Why would I want to eat an unhealthy dessert when I could just as easily have a healthy one? It’s basically all win! You get to feed your body with kindness and enjoy tons of flavour. No guilt needed here.
A Healthy Diet Should Include Dessert
There’s this idea that a healthy diet is a world of deprivation. But that never works darling! When you feel deprived you ultimately crack, load up on donuts, cookie dough, ice cream and who knows what else and go crazy. Or at least that’s what would have happened to me. There’s a reason why ‘dieting’ isn’t typically a successful option. Deprivation doesn’t work long term.
A true healthy diet is about abundance, variety and, of course, tons of flavour! And there’s room in there for dessert. There has to be! Nature did invent sweetness for a reason after all and you should be able to indulge.
