A Green Juice is Tastier than You’d Think.

I know that the idea of drinking kale and broccoli sounds bonkers (and frankly, kind of gross), but trust me… it’s freaking delicious and you need this green juice recipe in your life! If you’re new to this, you might be thinking “there is absolutely no way this is for me”, but give green juice a chance. I’m so glad I did (and I know you will be too).

The first time a green juice found me I stared at it, it stared back at me and I’m pretty sure some Mission Impossible music started playing in the background. I figured there was no way in hell I’d actually enjoy drinking my vegetables… but hey, life is short… I chose to accept my mission and drink it down!

It was love at first taste! And I haven’t stopped since.

How Do You Make a Green Juice Taste Good?

It’s all about using the right ingredients to create an awesome flavour! We don’t want to drink something down and go “oh yea… that’s a mouth full of kale and broccoli right there”. That’s probably the opposite of appetizing for most of us. But a good green juice isn’t like that at all.

Carrots and apples step in to make this green juice recipe splendiforous! Those wonderful add-ins even out the bitterness of our greens and add a touch of sweetness as well. It’s basically a match made in heaven.

Why Make Your Own Juice?

You may be wondering why you should even bother to create your own juice. But honestly, if you plan on drinking juice, fresh is the way to go.

What’s so special about fresh, homemade juice?

Drinking fresh juice allows you to load up on load up a ton of healthy, delicious goodness. A healthy green juice recipe is seriously filled to the brim with awesome nutrients and phytochemicals like vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

But there is a potential downside.

In order to make juice you need to remove the dry matter from the equation. This means that we’re saying goodbye to all of the wonderful fiber our fruits and veggies have to offer. While juice does allow us to load up on tons of micronutrients, removing the fiber means that you may experience a spike in your blood sugar… and potentially a crash in the near future.

But don’t you worry! You can easily prevent this.

By combining your fresh juice with a healthy, balanced meal (or enjoying one soon after). You pair that sucker with a plate full of healthy fiber, fats and proteins and you can have your high dose of micronutrients without the fear of a sugar rush. It’s all win! My favourite combo is a fresh green juice for breakfast with some yummy overnight oats.

But Store Bought Juice is Different.

Fresh juice doesn’t have a very long shelf life. We’re talking a day or so max (the sooner you drink it, the better). And in order to mass produce juice, they need to find a way to make it last. Enter pasteurization, a heat processing of food products that kills bacteria, prevents transmission of illness and increases shelf life. A pretty awesome invention that helped to increase food safety for sure.

However, heat may also destroy some nutrients. According to the University of Michigan high temperatures might destroy heat sensitive nutrients like Vitamin’s B and C (source). So you may be losing out on some of those awesome micronutrients you could easily have if you made your own juice.

But that’s not the only issue…

Most of the juices you find in the store are LOADED with sugar and flavouring. We already know that juice might cause a spike in your blood sugar. But store bought juice often adds insult to injury by throwing extra sugar into the mix. Instead of a healthy, nutritious juice, you might as well be drinking flavoured sugar water. Which is the opposite of what we’re going for.

Making your own juice gives you so much more than you could ever get in a store.

And, the best part, it’s super easy. The combos you can create are endless – it’s truly an opportunity to get creative and come up with awesome flavours you’ll never find on a store shelf.

Super bonus, keep the pulp to throw into salads, stir fries, soups and smoothies! The goodness never ends.

I’m so glad you’re excited to try this recipe! I hope you adore it ?. I totally agree – I’m always eager to spice things up and try something new.
And the broccoli stem really blends so well with so many green juices. I love being able to use them this way! I used to give them to my bunny, and he’s a little jealous I’ve started hogging them ?. But it’s worth it (and he still gets tons and tons of greens).
Let me know what you think! Have a gorgeous day!

This is a great recipe. You’re so right adding some fruits like apples adds the much needed sweetness to this type of juice.

I have never added broccoli – hmm, will have to try this! I have actually been alternating between red and green smoothies. Made a green one this morning with spinach, mango, and pineapple, plus maca powder, vanilla, and a flax-chia-hemp seed blend.

I am so glad you’re going to give broccoli stem a try! Let me know what you think. I always used to give them to my bunny, but I decided to try and juice them and see what happens. And it blends really well with everything else… much to my bunny’s dismay haha. Adds a little extra green goodness to the mix. I hope you love it.

I am a huge smoothie fan too! Your blend sounds amazing! I bet the pineapple and mango really create a delicious flavour. I’ll have to give that a try. Thank you for the inspiration <3.

I actually had one that I gave to mom and dad and they never use it. I’m sure you can have it if you ask them.

A centrifugal juicer will be the most affordable and work just fine. I use a Jack La Lanne’s Power Juicer and I love it. You can get them at Walmart or Canadian Tire. Prices rainge. I paid around $80 for mine.

Love your face! Hope today has been a beautiful day!
