We’ve all been visited by the little green monster. Envy creeps up on you and you find yourself flooded with emotions; anger, resentment, discontentment…
Envy can be painful, disheartening and destructive. It can arrive laced with blame, and our natural affinity to push those feelings outward and envelope them with anger can sometimes leave relationships irrevocably tarnished. Even in the most innocent and simplistic cases, the resentment and self-doubt boiled up by envy can leave us feeling incomplete and hopeless.
But I’d like to think that if we take this heavy experience as an opportunity to grow, it can also be a powerful tool towards achieving our goals.
“You’re too nice, it’s off-putting”. These words struck me in such a strange way. They left me feeling both embarrassed and insulted, stuck in a weird limbo, reviewing all of the once positive memories that led to that comment.
Let’s rewind – as someone who temps and freelances for a living, I often have a performance review at the end of a contract. My positive attitude has always been a point of highlight, but this time it was apparently a point of pain.
Welcome to 2016! Another year has arrived and with that comes a lot of excitement and an overwhelming amount of pressure. How will we better ourselves this year? How will we define 2016? What will we resolve to do?
Let’s talk about my New Year resolution and why it’s an awesome idea for you too:
I think that we’re all obsessed with the pursuit of happy life. It’s something that the world has trained us to endeavour to find. Forever in pursuit, not quite satisfied with the now.
But how to we work on truly creating that healthy, happy life that we desire?
With that in mind here are some simple ways to add some joy to everyday.
I have Graves Disease… but I don’t have a problem with my thyroid gland. My organ has no deformities or permanent dysfunctions. At this present moment I’m in remission. Without the barrage of autoimmune attacks, my thyroid gland functions perfectly.
That’s because I have an autoimmune disease. My thyroid gland, an organ that I once hated with so much fervor… an organ that I eagerly wanted to destroy… has been beaten up and bruised as much as I have. Graves Disease stole the steering wheel and my thyroid was helpless to stop the joy ride that ensued.
If you have Graves Disease or Hashimotos, here’s why I think you should learn to love your thyroid too (no matter what treatment options you choose).
There are many building blocks to good health. A great nutritional foundation is certainly one of them, but it doesn’t end there. You are what you eat and drink, but you are also what you think. Our thoughts have the ability to build us up or knock us down. They also have the ability to support or hinder our health. It is so important that you are mindful of the way you think, especially when it comes to what you think about yourself. Self love is one of the healthiest things you can do for your beautiful body. But it’s not always the easiest.
Graves Disease has taught me so much about healing and self-love. In order to heal I had to be honest about my needs, listen to my body and sometimes seek help from the people I love. I also had to become comfortable with the idea of being selfish. Learning to be selfish was incredibly difficult for me. The word itself conjures up a negative image.
But I have come to realize that being selfish is not only healthy, it is necessary, and I think that you should try it too.
Everyone faces some forms of difficulty in their lives. Whether it be a physical or mental illness, a personal loss, financial strain, or something that can’t even be explained, we all have our own battles. No matter where we are in our journey, or what we’re facing, an awesome self care plan is the best way to make sure that we’re able to weather the storms.
A self care plan has been has been a key factor in my ability to thrive with Graves Disease. And you deserve to thrive in your circumstances too. Not quite sure where to start? Here are the key components of an awesome self care plan.
